The Buddy Program

On October 4th the Williams Bay Jr./Sr. High School gym was buzzing with many unique noises, such as wolves, ducks, flutes, sneezes, and car horns as the students kicked off another year of the Buddy Program.  Finally, the students were able to meet their “buddy” and take some time to get to know them personally.  They also were able to take part in many fun activities such as Fork and Spoon, Ball Toss, and Bumpity-Bump-Bump.  It was a hilarious sight to see!!!

Because of the success of previous years, the Buddy Program is continuing for the 2005-2006 school year.  The idea behind this program is to pair each 7th grade student with either a junior or senior student who would be a “buddy” for that person for the rest of the year.  Every month the “buddies” are given opportunities to visit with one another, talk about how the year is going, and to take an active interest in getting to know each other.  Overall, this project provides an avenue for older students to help out the younger students.  As a result, not only does the school environment become more positive, but so does the self-image of the students involved in the program.

This year, the Buddy Program plans on taking part in different community projects.  We have brainstormed great ideas such as going to the local nursing home and spending time with the residents, helping out at the local animal shelter, and decorating the hallways for Christmas time.  The students are looking forward to the different opportunities they can take part in order to help out their community and their school.

Overall, the students and staff are excited about the program and look forward to the different activities that await them.

If you have any questions regarding this program, please contact Ms. Quast or Ms. Wagner at the high school guidance office.
