Our remedial summer school program will begin in June. The summer school program is designed to help those students who have struggled and failed core academic classes throughout the school year. The purpose of summer school is to bring these students up to passing standards so they can achieve future academic success. The summer school program is for seventh and eighth grade students who have failed either reading, English, math, science, world geography (7th grade) and/or social studies (8th grade) for the entire year. To determine if a student fails the entire year, his/her first semester and second semester grades will be taken into consideration. Students who have failed have two possible choices: (1) take and pass the failed class (es) in summer school or (2) repeat the failed class (es) the following school year. This could mean that electives for high school classes will be replaced with repeated junior high course work. Students who have failed several of their classes will be considered for retention although a successful summer school experience will be considered in the decision. Summer school students are also responsible for following the Summer School Policy. If your child is being considered for summer school, further information will be provided throughout the school year or you may contact the high school guidance office Ms. Quast at the high school guidance office at 245-6224. |
