This is a very appropriate time to take a few moments to reflect on everything we have to be thankful for in our lives. I consider myself a very fortunate person. I have a wonderful family and two grandsons who enjoy coming to Papa’s house to read stories with their Grandmother and fight laser sword battles with their Papa. I also have the good fortune to work in a wonderful school district with people who are caring and dedicated. The students, staff, parents and community value education and care about their community.

This morning as I was visiting the Elementary School one of the second grade students asked me if I would walk with her to her classroom. She was smiling, skipping and asking me about my day. As we went hand in hand down the hall, I realized how fortunate I am to be able to have these types of experiences on a regular basis. The four-year-old Kindergarten students make sure I have plenty of “high fives” each day and the older elementary students are always willing to show me their latest projects and read me a story. In the Middle/Senior High School, I see students who are rapidly developing into great young men and women.

This past weekend, the high school students put on the musical “Beauty and the Beast”. If you were able to see it, you already know what a great job everyone did with their parts and if you couldn’t make it, I strongly encourage you to put some of the next student events on your calendar. This school district has some very talented young people and some extremely dedicated adults that help bring out the best in our students. During the next few weeks, our students will be putting on a variety of musical performances and the winter sports season is already in full activity. I encourage you to put some of these events on your calendar; I know that watching our students perform will make you feel proud and happy to a part of our community.

In our community and the surrounding area, I see many service clubs, organizations and individuals reaching out to make the lives of others healthier, happier and safer. I see groups putting together Thanksgiving meals, food baskets, clothing drives and holiday gifts to help their fellow community members have a happier holiday season. I know that this generosity goes on all year long and people willing give of their time and talents to help in any way they can each and every day of the year.

I hope that each and every one of you has a great Thanksgiving. I also hope that you will be able to find a few moments of quiet time between the meal, football and conversation to reflect on your life and the many blessings we have in this great community and country. As I count my blessings, being able to be a part of this community always rises to the top of the list.
