Our big day has finally come – the opening of the new Elementary School. It was so exciting to see the staff, students and parents bringing the children to school on the first day. Everyone was full of smiles and you could feel the anticipation as everyone was ready to go into their new classroom.

On Saturday, September 10, 2016, we will be holding a grand opening celebration for everyone in the community. The celebration will start at 10:00 a.m. and last until 2:00 p.m. The Grand Opening will start with a short program at 10:00 a.m. This program will consist of a series of short speeches that describe the design, construction and community importance of this new facility. The program will start off with some musical selections from our High School Band, followed by some opening remarks from Jim Pfeil, our School Board President. Next, John Marra, Village President, and David Weber, former School Board President, will talk about how this building is the completion of a vision that started over twenty years ago when the current Middle/High School was built.

Robert Vajgrt, from Eppstein Uhen Architects, and James Scherrer from Scherrer Construction will talk about how the building was designed and constructed. After their remarks, they will be presenting a bronze dedication plaque that will be placed in the Elementary School foyer. In addition, Jack Lothian will be presenting a plaque to be placed on the Vision Wall. The Vision Wall, which is a mural of Geneva Lake at sunset, was donated by the Lothian family in honor of their parents Tom and Carol Ann Lothian.

The program will end with a ribbon cutting ceremony and my closing comments. I am so excited for you to see this new educational facility. I am confident that you will be impressed and proud to have it as an addition to our community. After my closing comments, you will be allowed to tour the building at your own pace. We will have representatives from the School Board, school staff, Scherrer Construction and Eppstein Uhen Architects. These individuals will be spread out throughout the building to answer any of your questions. Our food service department will also have refreshments available for everyone in the new Elementary School cafeteria.

Dr. William White, the Middle/High School Principal, will also be opening up the Middle/High School for people to tour. During this past summer, we repainted the lockers and many of the classrooms and common spaces. I think you will find the look fresh and exciting.

I hope that you will take the time to come and tour the new Elementary School. This project could not have been completed with the dedication, hard work and support of so many people. I want to thank each and every one of you because without your help and support this vision would not have become a reality.

See you Saturday!
