Voting //www.williamsbayschools.org/pro/bulletin/rss_posts.cfm?threadid=41&memberid=886 Dr. Anderson's Blog - Voting en-us Wayne Anderson //www.williamsbayschools.org/about/blog.cfm?posts=1&threadid=41#item_52 On Tuesday, November 6, 2018, citizens from across the United States will be given an opportunity to vote.  An opportunity to let your voice be heard on who will represent you on the local, state and national level.  Citizens of the Williams Bay School District will also have the opportunity to vote on the referendum question of whether or not to employ a School Resource Officer (SRO) to be in our school buildings while students are present.

The right to vote is something that should not be taken for granted, but I am afraid it is taken for granted.  In our last two elections, just over half of the citizens took the opportunity to cast a ballot for President of the United States or the Governor of Wisconsin.  In our last Presidential election, 59.7% of the electorate voted and in 2012, 57.5 % of the electorate voted.  In 2012, only 46% of Wisconsin residents cast votes for the Governor’s race.  This percentage increased to 57.8% during the 2012 recall election.  These percentages were reported as showing strong voter turnout.  I feel a little bit sad when half of our electorate decides for whatever reason that their vote does not count – because every vote counts.  Growing up I was taught that one of the traits of being a good citizen was to be an informed voter.  It was my job to learn about the issues and the candidates and then to cast my vote in a manner that best represented my beliefs.  Though I might not have voted is some primaries, I have tried to vote in every major election since I turned 18 years of age, which is over forty-five years ago..

During the past several months, the Williams Bay School Board and administration have tried to provide the citizens of the Williams Bay School District with all of the information they would need to make an educated decision regarding whether or not to employ a School Resource Officer.  I hope that each of you has had all of your questions answered and that you are prepared to vote on November 6.  Your vote matters!

How you decide to cast your vote will depend upon a number of factors that are important to you and your family.  However, I want to strongly encourage you to take the opportunity to make your voice heard in the ballot box.  No one person has any more power than anyone else once you step into the ballot box.  Each person has one vote to cast and that vote carries an equal amount of power whether cast by the nation’s wealthiest individual or the nation’s poorest citizen.  Please exercise your right to vote on November 6.  Your vote counts and the only wasted vote is the vote that is never cast.

Thank you for taking the time and effort to be an educated voter.  If you still have any last unanswered questions please do not hesitate to contact me at (262) 245-1575 or wanderson@williamsbayschools.org.
