Construction Update (11/2/15) //www.williamsbayschools.org/pro/bulletin/rss_posts.cfm?threadid=7&memberid=886 Dr. Anderson's Blog - Construction Update (11/2/15) en-us Wayne Anderson //www.williamsbayschools.org/about/blog.cfm?posts=1&threadid=7#item_7 This first week of November is great – weather is warm and dry – just right for construction season. If you have been driving by the Middle/Senior High School you will notice that the construction of the new elementary school keeps on making progress. If you are looking from Highway 67, you can see that the gymnasium walls are up and the steel for the roof has been set; the fitness center block walls are going up and the roadways are starting to take shape. Though you can see some progress from Highway 67 or the parking lot; there is much more to see at the back of the building. If you were to walk around back, you would see that the elevator shaft has been completed, the steel for the front entrance way and commons area is up and the roof is being put in place. The roof supports and metal framing should be done this week, so that the concrete floor for the second level of the building can be poured.

As you look around the site, you will notice that the curb and gutter has now been poured for the parking lot and roadways. The first coat of blacktop is scheduled to be put down either Friday, November 6 or the early part of next week. The steel for the 4K – 2 grade classroom section is coming this week and will start to be installed next week. Once this section is completed you will be able to get a realistic view of what the shape of the new building will look like on the site. It is still the goal to have all of the structural steel in place by Thanksgiving and the entire exterior of the building enclosed by January 1. This nice weather is helping us keep those timelines.

If you walk out behind the football field, you will be able to see the new baseball field. The actual field is now complete and it is looking great. The sod has been laid and is taking hold, the turf mixture for the warning track and infield has been put down and the poles for the outfield fence have been put up. The fence is now scheduled to be installed and the Sports Boosters will be putting up the new dugouts once the weather warms up in the spring. I know that winter has not yet started, but I am looking forward to when spring arrives and we will hear the umpire say, “Play ball” on our new field. It will be an exciting day.

In order to give you a better idea of the progress of the building, I will be taking a series of pictures each week and having them posted to the website. If the weather holds, I plan on taking my camera out to take pictures on Wednesday and then have them posted to the website by the end of the week.

It is hard to believe how much has happened over the past year. Last November, the residents of the school district voted in favor of building a new elementary school for the students in grades 4K-5. During this past year, we have transitioned the sixth grade students from the elementary school to the now Middle/Senior High School; we have finished the design of the new elementary school and got construction to a place where the building will soon be enclosed and the interior of the building will start to take place; the equipment for the fitness center has been designed and ordered and the baseball field has been virtually completed.

I remember how happy and proud I felt one year ago when the final votes for the new elementary school were counted and reported. I knew that the residents of the school district had entrusted us with a great responsibility – design and create a structure that will serve our students, staff and community well for the next 100 years. We have not taken this trust or responsibility lightly and I am looking forward to the day when the community can come in and view the final results of our labors. I am confident that you will be proud and impressed by what you will see. So stay tuned for my weekly onslaught of pictures and remember that if you ever have any questions about either the building project or any school activity, I am only a phone call, email or short visit away.
