Construction Update - January 13, 2016

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

Even though we are now in the heart of winter, the construction on the new elementary school continues to make positive progress. It is now possible to see the entire outline of the new building, so you can truly get a visual image of what the new elementary school will look like once it is completed. I try to put updated pictures of the construction on our district website each week, so I hope that you have been following the visual progress of the building. During the past month, a great deal...

Construction Update - December 3, 2015

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

El Nino is a welcome addition to our construction site. Even though we had one major snow storm this year, overall the weather has been fairly cooperative this fall. The rain has slowed the erection of our steel frame by slightly over a week, but in the overall time scheme the construction project is still on schedule and currently running on or slightly under budget. Most of the construction that goes on during the day is not very visible from the road; thus I have started taking pictures each...

Happy Thanksgiving 2015

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

Thanksgiving Day is quickly approaching and the holiday season is already in full force with Christmas music on the radio and tree lots open to purchase or cut down your favorite tree. This is a very appropriate time to take a few moments to reflect on everything we have to be thankful for in our lives. I consider myself a very fortunate person. I have a wonderful family and two grandsons who enjoy coming to Papa’s house to read stories with their Grandmother and fight laser sword battles...

Inclement Weather - How Do I Decide Whether or Not to Cancel School

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

The weatherman is now letting us know that the first winter storm of the season is about to hit. How much snow we will get depends upon the storm’s track, so like always we will wait and see whether we get a dusting or have some significant accumulations. In any case, I felt that this would be an appropriate time to remind you of the process that I go through when deciding whether or not school should be called off because of the weather. Last year was a fairly routine winter, but the 2013-2014...

Public Hearing on Theatre Road Speed Limit and Sidewalks

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

If you have been following the progress of the new elementary school, you can see that the steel frame of the building is beginning to take shape. As the physical construction of the building is moving forward, other important issues associated with the new elementary school are also being addressed – one of these issues is how students will be able to safely get from their home to the new school. This issue is going to be discussed by the Streets and Highways and also the Protective...

Construction Update - November 2, 2015

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

This first week of November is great – weather is warm and dry – just right for construction season. If you have been driving by the Middle/Senior High School you will notice that the construction of the new elementary school keeps on making progress. If you are looking from Highway 67, you can see that the gymnasium walls are up and the steel for the roof has been set; the fitness center block walls are going up and the roadways are starting to take shape. Though you can see some...

Construction Update - October 20, 2015

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

Fall is certainly upon us as we see the crops being harvested, the leaves turning color and gradually falling off the trees and the steel girders going up to form the shape of our new elementary school. During the past month, one of the most dramatic changes with the new elementary school is the erection of steel girders. These girders create a frame for the building and give us an opportunity to see what the shape of the new building will be in relation to the current Middle/Senior High School....

Homecoming Week 2015

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

We are now in Homecoming Week, a time when student and community pride for their school is extremely evident. This is the traditional time for alumni to come back home to support their home teams and relish memories of their own school days. Williams Bay has an educational tradition that spans over 100 years and people are proud to have gone to the “Bay” and to have their children or relatives go to the “Bay”. Though as I write this blog, the weather outside is a bit dreary,...

Construction Update - September 15, 2015

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

As you drive by the Middle/Senior High School on Highway 67, you might have noticed that the walls of the new elementary school are now starting to take shape. On Monday, September 14, the precast concrete walls started to be erected. These walls form the skeleton of the new elementary gymnasium and fitness center. It will take about eight or nine days (weather permitting) for all of the precast walls to be put up. However, as you drive by the site you should notice new wall additions going up...

Football Season 2015

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

September has arrived and a new school year is at hand. However, prior to the first day of school many of our students have already been coming to school on a regular basis to be a part of an extracurricular team. Fall sports generally start in mid-August and by the start of school many of these teams have already seen competition. One of these co-curricular activities is football, which started at the beginning of August and saw their first game on Saturday, August 22 against Kenosha...

New Beginnings- August, 2015

Posted by Dr. Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

It is now time for a new school year to begin; the school supplies have all been purchased, the weather is turning cooler and the fall sports seasons are already underway. On Monday, August 24, the staff reported back to school for inservice training and to get their rooms ready for another school year. When I met with the staff members on Monday morning, I stated that a word to summarize this upcoming school year would be “change”. We are in the midst of several...

Building Construction Update - July 2, 2015

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

The month of June saw its fair share of rain, but progress on the new elementary building continues despite puddles of water. If you have had the opportunity to drive past the current Middle/Senior High School, you probably have seen earthmoving equipment getting the site ready for the new elementary school. Today, July 2, the concrete footings for the new building are being poured. Once the foundation is completed, the structural steel will start being erected and the shape of the new elementary...

Building Construction Update - June 18, 2015

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

The digging and dirt moving is now going on in full force. In fact, if you have driven by the Junior/Senior High School recently, you have probably seen the earth moving equipment going up and down the site. The excavation crews are preparing the site for the foundations of the new elementary school. In addition, if you look on the back northeast corner, an infiltration basin is being created to capture the water from the new building and parking lots and then hold it long enough for it to be...

Building Construction Update

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

School has let out for the summer, the weather is warmer and we have now entered into one of Wisconsin’s busiest seasons – construction season! As you drive by our Middle/Senior High School you will start seeing earth moving equipment working to prepare our site for the foundations of our new elementary school. This is a day that I and many others have been waiting for in anticipation. Over the next eighteen (18) months, the new elementary school will go from a concept to a finished...

School Community Association (SCA)

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

Williams Bay is a great community with many fine organizations that assist the school district in many ways. One of these organizations is the School Community Association, better known as the SCA. This organization raises funds for the school district through a number of activities; probably the best known is the “Fun Fair”. The “Fun Fair” is held at the Williams Bay Junior/Senior High School and has a variety of activities: silent auction, purchasing tickets to place...

Baseball Field Update

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Comments (1)

“Play ball”, these will be some very common words now that spring has officially arrived and the weather is turning warmer. This week, both our Boys Baseball and Girls Softball teams have their first games. We have been getting our fields ready and hoping that the weather cooperates to let us get our games in on time without a lot of rescheduling. However, what I wanted to talk about in this blog is to give you an update on the construction of our new baseball field. When I came to...

Elementary School Building Update

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

Snow has now once again blanketed our ground, but it is officially Spring and the construction of our new elementary school is getting ready to begin. In early April, construction trailers and equipment will start to arrive and be put into place and our first set of bid documents will be sent out. This set of bid documents will be for the structural steel that will be used for the main construction of the building and for the site work that needs to be done to prepare the area for the new building,...

Construction Season Begins - Revised

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

Earlier this week, I gave you an update on the start of our construction season and the impact it would have on transportation and parking starting in early April. However, after our last construction meeting on Wednesday, March 11 some items have now changed. Our parking and traffic patterns at the Junior/Senior High School will be able to remain the same for the rest of this school year. Our construction timeline is not being delayed or set back, but Scherrer Construction in more closely examining...

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

Now that the snow is starting to melt and the weather is getting warmer, construction season is right around the bend. In fact, Scherrer Construction will start bringing in staging equipment to prepare the site for the construction of the new elementary school and parking lots during spring break. Spring break starts on Saturday, March 28 and ends Sunday, April 5. Excavation of the site should begin in early spring. With the development of the site, portions of our property will be turned into...

Bomb Threat

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

On Tuesday, March 3, 2015; the Williams Bay Junior/Senior High School was the target of a bomb threat. In the early afternoon, a threat was found written on a bathroom wall. Once the threat was discovered, the Williams Bay Police and Fire Departments were contacted to help us with the situation. Both departments responded very quickly and made themselves available to help resolve the situation. After the threat was reviewed by the Williams Bay Police Department, the Junior/Senior High School was...
