Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

On Wednesday, March 28, we will be having an intruder drill with our staff and students. This drill will focus on what to do if an armed intruder were to gain entrance to our building. Much like the previous drills staff and students will talk about what is going to occur prior to the drill, the drill with then take place and finally students and staff will have an opportunity to talk about what happened after the drill has been completed. More School Safety Drills

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

As a means of keeping you updated on the measures that we are taking in regards to school safety, I wanted to write a blog to let you know about two safety drills that will take place during the month of March. As you may already know, on Thursday, February 22, the district used the morning of its inservice day to work with members of the Williams Bay Police Department, the Williams Bay Fire Department, the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department and the Walworth County SWAT team to review...

School Safety

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

Each day I have the pleasure and the privilege to interact with the staff and students that come to the Williams Bay School District. I feel very blessed to be part of such a great school district and community – a district that wants the very best for each and every staff member and student. One of the things that we want all of our staff and students to have is a safe place to work and learn. Over the past weeks, people from around the country have been impacted by the school violence...

Community Conversations

Learning from the past, reflecting on the present and preparing for the future.  These statements would all reflect the questions that we are asking ourselves as we complete one five-year strategic plan and begin working on our next five-year strategic plan.  The strategic planning process is important because it helps us continually think about where we are and where we want to be in the foreseeable future.  Our last five-year strategic plan started in 2012 and ends in 2017. ...

Process for Hiring a new Elementary Principal

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

It is said that “all good things must come to an end”; in some ways, this saying is appropriate as the Williams Bay School District prepares to find a new elementary principal. Ms. Isaacson has faithfully served the school district as its elementary principal for the past twenty-five (25) years and will retire at the end of this school year. I have been able to work with her closely for the past four years and have seen first-hand how much she cares for her staff, students and the...

Future of Football in Williams Bay

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

The Fall sports seasons are almost completed, except for our Badger Co-op Girls Swimming team – who won conference again this past weekend for the fifth year in a row. Katelyn O’Brien, a senior from Williams Bay, won the conference championship in the 50 free style, 100 breaststroke, 200 free relay and the 400 free relay events. Our volleyball, cross country, tennis, football and soccer teams also had very successful seasons. It was exciting to watch our athletes do...

Fitness Center - Community Use

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Comments (3)

It is not yet New Year’s Eve, so most of us have not started making our resolutions for how we are going to change our lifestyle for the new year. Two of the most common New Year’s resolutions are to lose weight and get in better shape. These two almost always make it on to my list of resolutions. If these goals interest you, you do not have to wait for the new year to begin – you can start on November 1, 2016, this is when the new fitness center will be open to the residents...

Counting our Blessings

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

Sometimes it is beneficial to take a few moments to reflect upon our life and our blessings, so that we can remember how fortunate we are to live in such a beautiful place surrounded by so many caring individuals. Last week, I had the good fortune to take a vacation with my wife to the island of Grenada in the southern Caribbean. While on vacation, my wife and I had the opportunity to visit one of their elementary schools and talk to the staff and students. After our visit, I took some time to...

Editorial Response - Williams Bay Football Program

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

On Wednesday, September 15, 2016, I read an editorial about the Williams Bay Football program. I felt compelled to write a response to this editorial because of the amount of misinformation that this editorial contained. It is true that Williams Bay will not have its own football program this fall because we did not have enough students to field a team. In the editorial it stated that the previous coach had turned the Williams Bay football program around and that he left because he had asked the...

The teachers are busy grading papers and tests and putting their final student grades into the grade book. Graduation - 2016

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

In a few short days, we will be celebrating one of the most important days of the school year – graduation. This is a time when we take an evening to recognize our seniors for all of their accomplishments over the past thirteen (13) years and encourage them as they embark on the next stage of life’s journey. The night is filled with joy, enthusiasm and pride as parents, relatives, friends and staff members listen as each of our twenty-nine (29) seniors have their names and accomplishments...

Blessed by the Arts

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

Last night my wife and I attended the High School Collage Concert. It was a very enjoyable evening and a great opportunity to view some very dedicated staff and a large number of tremendously talented students. William Congreve once wrote, “Music has charms to soothe a savage breast” and last night’s performance brought a sense of pride, joy and enthusiasm to everyone in attendance. I could not have been prouder of what everyone accomplished. I have always been impressed by how...

Celebrating 100 Years of Service

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

Birthdays are a time for celebration. When we are young, our birthdays signify a special day when family and friends get together to congratulate the individual on getting another year older. As we get older, birthdays signal special moments in your life. When a person turns 16, they have become old enough to get a driver’s license; at 21 you are old enough to vote; at 30 you start to realize that time is moving more rapidly than you thought it would and you have turned into an adult with...

Elementary School Construction Update - April 25, 2016

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

I am a James Bond 007 fan and like most fans, as the next film is about to be released I wait with unbridled anticipation. This is the same feeling that I get as the new elementary school is nearing its completion. If you have not been watching the building’s progress through the photos posted on our district’s webpage, I strongly encourage you to do so. Now as I walk through the building, I can get a true sense about what each area will look like once it is completed. As you enter...

Elementary School Construction Update - March 21, 2016

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Comments (1)

Spring has now officially arrived, the weather is getting warmer, the birds are singing and the exterior of the new elementary school is almost completed. I hope that you have been watching the progress on our new elementary school by looking at the construction photos that are being posted on a regular basis. In fact, I was out taking pictures of the new elementary school this morning. It was nice to be able to walk around the site without getting full of mud. As I walked around the building...

The snow is quickly melting from the ground, the days are getting longer and the new elementary school is making more and more progress every day. As I mentioned in my last update, I hope that you are going online to view the building progress of our elementary school. If you haven’t I strongly urge you to go to www.williamsbayschools.org and scroll to the bottom of the home page. Each week, I add new photos that show the progress of the building construction. At this point, the outside...

Reject - The Science of Belonging (The Film)

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Comments (4)

Last week, I had the privilege of going to the 95th State Education Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. During my three days, I was able to attend several key note speakers and sectionals, but one sectional had a profound impact on me and I wanted to share my thoughts on this topic with you. I was able to watch a screening of the film “Reject – The Science of Belonging.” The film portrayed the impact that social rejection has on human life. Unfortunately, social rejection is...

95th State Education Convention Review

Posted by Wayne Anderson in General  |  Post a comment

Last week, I had the opportunity and pleasure to attend the 95th State Education Convention in Milwaukee. This convention is held around the third week of January each year. The convention provides sectionals on community engagement, facilities, human resources, leadership, finance and student achievement where attendees can learn from other school districts and businesses across the state. The convention also has three main speakers that help inspire us to do better each day. This year’s...
