Celebrating 100 Years of Service

Birthdays are a time for celebration. When we are young, our birthdays signify a special day when family and friends get together to congratulate the individual on getting another year older. As we get older, birthdays signal special moments in your life. When a person turns 16, they have become old enough to get a driver’s license; at 21 you are old enough to vote; at 30 you start to realize that time is moving more rapidly than you thought it would and you have turned into an adult with a variety of responsibilities. After your 30th birthday, it seems that each decade marks another milestone in your existence.

This year marks a significant moment in the history of the Elementary School – its 100th birthday. The original structure was built in 1916 and the year of its construction is proudly proclaimed on the terracotta piece on the front of the building. The birth of this building showed the strong commitment of the community to wanting to provide the best educational structure possible to its young people. Originally, this building held grades K-12 until the new Junior/Senior High School was built in 1996. Though the Elementary School has gone through many expansion projects in its lifetime, the main structure has remained the focal point of the school.

On Saturday, May 14, the Williams Bay School District will be hosting a special birthday party to honor the 100 years of service this building has provided the school district. The Elementary School will have its door open at 1:00 p.m. for the community, alumni and guests to walk through the building and reflect on the many memories that this building has provided them and their loved ones. Though no official program will take place, Board members and administrators will be on hand to take part in this celebration with you. No birthday would be complete without a birthday cake and refreshments; which will be served in the cafeteria. The celebration will end at 3:00 p.m.

Our Elementary School students are helping us mark this special anniversary by posing for a group picture in front of the Elementary School. These students will be the last group of Williams Bay students to attend the school because in September 2016, the students will be going to their brand new elementary school.

I hope that you will be able to take a few moments to stop in and join us in celebrating this special day. Your commitment, dedication and support to our school district are greatly appreciated and I am grateful to be a part of this special moment in your history.
