Finding a college is an important process that each student and their family go through during high school. There are thousands of universities and colleges in the United States. These resources will help you narrow down your choices. Compile all the information then compare the schools to the criteria that is most important to you as the incoming student.

University of Wisconsin System logoUniversity of Wisconsin System

The UW System has a total of 26 campuses. Half of the campuses are 2-year, while the other half is 4-year schools. The UW system has a guaranteed transfer program from the 2 year campus into a 4 year campus. This is a great program for students who need a smaller classroom setting, less tuition and more guidance in the first few years of their college experience.

Minnesota/Wisconsin Tuition Reciprocity

The states of Wisconsin and Minnesota have a reciprocity agreement, meaning that students can pay in-state tuition costs when attending schools in Minnesota, which is often a substantial savings over having to pay out-of-state tuition.  Students need to fill out a form requesting that this be done.  The form is usually available starting in April of the same year.  Please click on the link below to reach the Wisconsin Higher Educational Aids Board, then click on the appropriate link to download the form.

Financial Aid

Answering the question, "How am I going to pay for college?", is something every prospective college bound student and family must answer. There are scholarships, grants, work study, and student loans are available to help pay for school.

Below is a list of resources where you can find information on various programs that can help pay for college.

Scholarships

The high school counselor receives scholarships throughout the school year. The links below will contain all the information for each scholarship including: the amount, qualifications, and forms needed to apply.

    Local Scholarships

    Local Scholarships will not be available until the Spring. Separate information will be distributed to all WBHS seniors. If using Google Chrome to fill out the scholarship pdf, here is a how-to website to show you how to save the filled in pdf.

    Other Scholarship Programs

    Some scholarships get sent to WBHS through the State of WIsconsin and other major organizations. These types of scholarships are awarded based on nomination from the WBHS staff.

  • Using the internet has become a great tool to search for scholarships. There are several websites that you can visit to find money to help fund your education. Please remember this is a process that may need to be repeated on a monthly basis because new scholarships continue to become available! Here are a few links to get you started:

    • Student Scholarships: List of college scholarships.

    • Fast Web: Very comprehensive site contains a database of over 600,000 scholarships and is growing all the time. Complete a questionnaire and Fast Web will give you a list of scholarships for which you are eligible.​

    • Peterson's: Is a one stop college resource. It has a number of great resources and free search tools.

    • CAPPEX: A large scholarship database- with more then 11 million in scholarships! 

    • Scholarships: offers a robust database of grants across the country. In fact, the site has collected over 3.7 million scholarships adding up to $19 billion.​​

    • Scholly: Its a website and a mobile app!  Just create an account, enter information about your location and activities, and Scholly will match you with local and national scholarships.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a form that can be prepared annually by current and prospective college students (undergraduate and graduate) in the United States to determine their eligibility for student financial aid.
